Age and graffiti are the two gravest threats to painted surfaces on the railways and around the home. tutoProm® from AZ Electronic Materials has been protecting interiors and exteriors from weathering and vandalism on German transport and buildings for a decade
TutoProm® from AZ Electronic Materials is a highly transparent, polysilazane-based coating that can be wiped or sprayed onto painted areas. After curing it forms a very thin, glass-like and very dense layer with a low surface energy to which marker pens, spray paint or other pigments struggle to adhere. Surfaces can be cleaned with ordinary products and tutoProm® is resistant to weak acids, slightly alkaline cleaners and commercial graffiti removers.
Not even aggressive sprays mixed with brake fluid can damage the surface, a feature that impressed leading transport and logistics company Deutsche Bahn sufficiently to give it official approval as a coating for the interior and exterior surfaces of its trains. tutoProm® can also be used to protect buses, containers, mobile homes, metal building facades and blinds, as well as traffic signs and billboards, from dirt and graffiti.
tutoProm®'s dirt-repellent nature also makes the cleaning of surfaces easy. This quality appeals to homeowners and rail managers alike, who frequently share a problem: graffiti, whether one regards it as art or vandalism, costs €50-70 a square metre to remove. Such protection is made possible by the reactive components of the polysilazanes, which react with humidity - even under normal pressure - to form a 10µm-thick polysiloxane coating that adheres firmly to base coats. As part of an extreme-condition test the effects of periodic train cleaning over a five-year time span were simulated. Unlike the unprotected surfaces, those treated with tutoProm® exhibited no scratches, loss of lustre or other blemishes.
A thin transparent coat of tutoProm® can be applied to old, weathered and chalking paint in order to regain a flawless new look, sparing the significant cost of completely redecorating.
As an additional benefit, the coating offers an easy-to-clean surface that protects against graffiti inks and will last for more than a decade.
tutoProm® is available in two different grades:. tutoProm® bright permanently conserves non-porous surfaces in exterior applications, providing easily cleaned, anti-graffiti coatings for rail coaches, ticket machines and metal facades.
tutoProm® matt HD, meanwhile, provides permanent protection of non-porous interior surfaces, such as passenger compartments in rolling stock, marble floors or stainless steel components.
