The 2014 IT-TRANS International Conference and Exhibition is underway in Karlsruhe, Germany, with approximately 170 companies from 26 countries presenting cutting-edge IT solutions and services for public transport.
Highlights of the opening session on Tuesday 18 February included a presentation by Vernon Everitt, managing director, customer experience, marketing & communications, Transport for London, on meeting the needs of smart travellers through better information, ticketing and staffing strategies, and a keynote speech from Thomas Kritzer, chairman of the UITP Security Commission and Austrian deputy director U-Bahn (Underground Railway) Operations, Wiener Linien, on linking security to IT.
Day two of the event at the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre includes the second edition of the Information Design Workshop. Yo Kaminagai, chair of the UITP Platform on Design and Culture and head of design, Projects Management Department, RATP Group, Paris, presents new global projects focusing on security, and how design and art can help enhance the sense of security in public transport.
Within the framework of IT-TRANS, more than 50 international experts from transportation enterprises, business and politics will expound on topics such as information technology, passenger information, interoperable E-ticketing, control systems for intermodal transport systems and social media dynamics. Speakers from Europe, Asia, Africa and North America are expected.
